Take a Step Back in Time

Originally built in the 1850s, the SAO Studio was once a bakehouse proving room and later a kitchen scullery. The studio also served as the birthplace of David Arnott’s son was born in 1862 - David being the brother of William Arnott, Australia’s most famous biscuit maker.

The timber cabinetry comprises old wood sourced from the Homebush factory when Arnott's moved to Huntingwood in 1996.

During the restoration of our studio accommodation in Maitland, hand-written customer orders were found on the walls, which gave such a rare insight into days gone by. Also during the restoration, the copper pipework that makes up the vanity unit, taps, and shower system was crafted by Stephen Arnott.

The SAO Studio may be small, but it packs a mighty punch with its stylish design and amenities. The original 1850s floorboards and custom jute floor coverings add to the endless charm. Inside the studio, you’ll find a comfortable single bed with a lush pillow-top mattress and Scottish flax bed linens.

The lux rainfall showerhead and fluffy Egyptian cotton towels offer an indulgent experience. For added convenience, the room includes complimentary WiFi and coffee and tea-making facilities.
